Movicol powder for oral solution is a laxative indicated for the treatment of constipation. It works by increasing the bowel movements and aids in comfortable intestinal moments. Each sachet contains 6.9g blend of Macrogol 3350, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Potassium Chloride. Constipation is a condition in which a person has uncomfortable or infrequent bowel movements. Generally, bowel movements result in the passage of small amounts of hard, dry stool, usually fewer than three times a week, which is due to the absorption of too much water from the colon. As the food moves from stomach to intestine, the intestine absorbs the water. Muscle contractions then push the stool toward the rectum, and by the time the stool reaches the rectum, most of the water has been absorbed, making the stool solid, which results in difficult and painful bowel movements or feeling bloated or uncomfortable. Macrogol is an osmotically acting laxative; that is, an inert substance that passes through the gut without being absorbed into the body. It relieves constipation because it causes water to be retained in the bowel instead of being absorbed into the body. This increases the water content and volume of the stools in the bowel, making them softer and easier to pass, as well as improving gut motility.

• For use in children aged 2 to 11 years: Open the sachet and pour the contents into a glass. Add about 62.5 ml of a glass of water. Stir well until all the powder has dissolved and the Movicol Paediatric Plain solution is clear or slightly hazy, then give it to your child to drink. If you like, you can add a flavor such as orange squash to the drink.
